Are you eager to start your fitness journey, but feel intimidated to step foot in the gym? Starting a new fitness journey can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these steps to work towards overcoming your gym intimidation and achieving your new fitness goals.
Find a Comfortable Spot for Your First Day
When you first arrive at the gym, look for a quiet area where you can collect your thoughts and get familiar with your surroundings. If you’re comfortable doing cardio, grab a treadmill and look around as you walk. If you’re looking to get started with weights, grab a set of dumbbells and find an empty area of the gym to set up.
Slowly Introduce Yourself to New Equipment
Don’t try to tackle everything at once. Start with one or two pieces of equipment and take the time to learn how to use them properly. As you become more confident, you can gradually introduce yourself to new equipment. Remember, our Fitness Staff are here to answer any questions you may have regarding equipment or how to use it.
Try a Group Exercise Class
Group exercise classes are a great way to meet new people and learn new exercises. Look for classes that are beginner-friendly and focus on an activity you enjoy or that you’d like to try. Our instructors are always happy to help with modifications or adjustments.
Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
Remember that everyone starts somewhere and it’s okay to be a beginner. Focus on your own progress and celebrate small victories along the way.
Give Yourself Grace
It’s normal to feel anxious or overwhelmed when starting a new fitness routine. Practice mindfulness by focusing on the present moment and letting go of negative self-talk. Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that it’s okay to make mistakes and try new things.
By following these tips, you can overcome gym intimidation and start achieving your fitness goals. Remember to be patient, kind and compassionate with yourself as you navigate this new territory. Our Fitness Staff is here to help every step of the way.
